ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
TESTING AND EVALUATION

Formal and informal assessments are used for the purpose of recognizing strengths and weaknesses and for planning programs for academic development.

Standardized tests are administered to aid in placement of students into appropriate classes, to gather information to help the teacher plan effective academic programs, and to monitor year-to-year academic achievement.

Teacher-made tests are used to teach test-taking strategies, help students develop study skills, and assess the students' understanding of concepts.

Tests available for accessing progress and needs:

· Maturational Assessment Test
· School Readiness Test
· Motor-Free Visual Perception Test
· Kaufman Test of Academic Achievement
· Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test
· Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests
· Slosson Intelligence Test
· Slosson Oral Reading Test
· Lincoln-Oteresky Motor Test
· Iowa Test of Basic Skills

Evaluations ("Report Cards")

Students receive four evaluations each school year. The evaluations mark the students' progress in each subject, and indicate strengths and weaknesses of specific skills in each subject. Social development and work/study skills are also indicated.

Students in the Upper Elementary Grades are required to complete a self-evaluation form to help them learn to realistically evaluate personal progress.
