ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
CURRICULUM (Grades 2 and 3)

Grades 2-3The curriculum is not limited to the basics. It includes all school-directed activities (i.e. work assignments, field trips, etc.) Development of the "whole" child is encouraged. Activities are included that allow children to learn in their preferred learning styles: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. New ways of learning, including interaction and involvement of all the senses, are explored through a balance of self-directed and teacher-directed activities.

Language:
· Creative writing
· Independent reading for information, comprehension, and enjoyment
· Research and report-writing
· Study of the mechanics of writing
· Grammar
· Spelling lists
· Reading games

Math:
· Projects
· Patterns and geometry
· Games
· Memorization of math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
· Solving story problems
· Computation of Math problems on paper

Science and Health:
· Scientific process for experimenting
· Exploring and discovery
· Study of conservation, and conservation projects
· Health principles of nutrition, rest, exercise and personal hygiene
· Study of body systems: circulation, digestion

Social Studies:
· Multi-cultural studies
· History
· Geography and maps
· Study of community: town, state, country
· Community projects
· Group activities for development of leadership and "team member" skills

Bible:
· Study of Bible characters through stories, songs, and games

Arts:
· Music: singing, movement, instruments
· Drama: skits and plays
· Study of artists and their styles
· Experience with variety of art media to create original art
· Field trips: museums, opera, symphony, theaters

Computers:
· Games
· Keyboard practice
· Internet research
· Word processing
